Graduate: Will you complete a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) outside of the United States and plan to pursue a graduate degree?
The University of Mississippi’s Graduate School and the Graduate Programs review applications for admission to Master and Doctoral programs holistically. The selection process is competitive, and admission decisions take into consideration the availability of space and resources within a department. To assure full consideration for admission, all application materials must be received by the deadline dates, which are displayed at this link. Applicants for graduate admission should have at least a B or equivalent average in previous university/college studies and appropriate undergraduate preparation in their fields of study. Click here to apply to a graduate program!
Applicants for programs in most disciplines should submit official test results of the general Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to consideration for admission. Most programs require the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE. See the website of the program for which you are applying for specific information. Applicants for graduate study in business and accountancy are required to submit official results of the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). The university code number is 1840.
While GRE or GMAT is sufficient for most academic disciplines, some academic departments require other standardized test scores as part of their application process. For example, some departments in the School of Education require the Praxis Exam.

Other Frequently Asked Questions
Who is an international student?
In our admission process, we consider an international applicant to be anyone who does not hold U.S. citizenship, regardless of one’s legal status or location of residence. Students who are dual citizens (who hold U.S. citizenship and additional citizenship(s) in other countries) are not considered international students.
What are the application deadlines?
Undergraduate admission operates on a rolling (continuous evaluation) schedule, meaning any application received within a reasonable time frame before the beginning of a term will be considered for admission; however, for students requiring an immigration document in order to enter the U.S., the following priority deadlines are recommended in order to allow enough time for the student visa process:
- Fall Semester (mid-August) priority deadline: April 1
- Spring Semester (mid-January) priority deadline: October 1
- Summer Terms (end of May through early August) priority deadline: March 1
Applications for admission may be submitted as early as one year before the start of the desired enrollment term.
For Graduate program admissions, application deadlines vary by program, and can be found at the Graduate School’s website.
What is the application fee, and can it be waived?
- Undergraduate Application Fee: $70
- Graduate Application Fee: $50
- Exchange (incoming) Application Fee: $70
- Intensive English Application Fee: $50
Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Since the student visa process requires students to demonstrate the capability of paying for all education, living, and travel costs for attending university in the U.S., the application fee cannot be waived on the basis of financial hardship for any international applicant who requires a student visa to enter or remain in the U.S.
